“Still Life with a Green Glass” by Vyacheslav Stekolshchikov is not only a wonderful still life of the severe style era that the author became interested in in the 1960s by performing a number of magnificent still lifes, but also a reference to the famous “Still Life with a Green Glass” by Pyotr Konchalovsky in 1933 (now the painting is in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow).

Vyacheslav Stekolshchikov maintains the overall color scheme and the central place of the “main character” - glasses in the composition, while removing lace and elegance of the jug; he pulls the horizontal squat of the Konchalovsky plot up: the vertical of a glass is emphasized by a bottle with an extended neck, a candle, and even a cutting wooden board on the wall. The shiny surface of the table gives way to a "reflector" metal tray, while maintaining the lightness of a silver background. A peculiar paraphrase of a famous painting begins to live its own life. The sheer softness and picturesqueness of Konchalovsky’s still life in Stekolshchikov’s work changes to strict graphic art, creating a certain decorative value for this work, which is so in demand by modern technological interiors of kitchens and dining rooms.

At the same time, the green glass, as an object of still life, has acquired special significance in the history of art: connoisseurs and art lovers will immediately recognize the famous heroine of many other paintings. Therefore, your gift will have not only a highly artistic performance, but also an additional historical significance.
