Reshin Evsey

1916 — 1978

Evsey Isaakovich Reshin was born in Bukhara (Central Asia) in the family of an engineer. In 1922 the family moved to Moscow. In 1924 — 1934 Reshin studied at an art school where his art teacher was Vasiliy Bychkov who had big influence in Reshin's decision to continue his art education. In 1936 Reshin graduated from the Moscow Fine Arts College and in 1942 from the Moscow State Art Institute where he studied in the classes of professors Ivan Chekmazov and Vera Favorskaya and later met great Soviet artists Alexander Osmerkin and Sergey Gerasimov who also became his teachers.

In 1941 — 1945 Reshin worked in the TASS news agency, in a military publishing house, in a poster group of the Moscow State Art Institute. In 1941 the artist joined the Union of Artsist of the USSR and began to work for the USSR Art Fund. In 1952 — 1954 Reshin moved to the Krasnoyarsk region and Tuva Republic and made numerous artworks devoted to Siberian nature and everyday life of geologists. There he creates series of etudes "Sayany" (1952 — 1954), "Tuvan etudes", "Khakasiya"(1954) and two main paintings "Geologists" and "Ferry" (1956).

Since 1960 he travelled a lot to Vronovo, Senezh and the Baltic republics, created series of Moscow suburban landscapes with tempera and watercolors. In 1962 Reshin took a trip to the Virgin Lands in Central Asia. As a result of this trip he made in 1963 a large-scale canvas — triptykh "Virgin Lands".

Since 1953 the artist had been regularly participated in Moscow Art exhibitions. Personal exhibitions of his works took place in 1956, and after his death in 1981, 1984, 1987, and in 1993 in Moscow. During 1962-1978 Reshin taught drawing and painting at an art center in Moscow. Reshin worked in almost all the genres — landscapes, still-lives, portraits, genre scenes and left a rich heritage of paintings and graphic works.

Art works by Reshin are represented in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Isaak Levitan State Museum of History and Architecture in Ples, Bryansk Regional Art Museum-Exhibition center, Penza Fine Art Gallery named after K.A. Savitsky, Novocheboksack Art Gallery, Ostrogozhsk History and Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy, A.V. Suvorov's Museum in Izmail (Odessa region, Ukraine), People's National Gallery in Barka town (Kalinin region), Central Museum of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, in private collections in Russia and abroad.
