Shegal Elena

1924 — 1979

Elena Shegal was born in 1924 in Moscow. In 1939 she entered Moscow secondary art school where she studied under V. V. Pochitalov and her own father Grigory Shegal. During the war Elena Shegal stayed in evacuation in Bashkiria (1941-1943), and when she returned to Moscow she entered the State Art Institute named after V.Surikov. In 1949 she graduated from the institute workshop headed by S.V.Gerasimov. Her degree work called "Congratulations on the gold medal" was exhibited at the festival in Budapest.

In 1949 Elena Shegal became a member of the USSR Union of Artists and participated in all-Union, republican and Moscow exhibitions. The artist’s favorite genre is portrait. Her artworks are presented in the museum of the State Academic Bolshoy Theatre, art museums in Moscow, Bryansk, Vladimir, Kamyshin, as well as in private collections both in Russia and abroad.
