Stekolschikov Vyacheslav

Vyacheslav Stekolschikov was born in Moscow in 1938. From 1950 to 1957 he studied at the Moscow art school which has been under the patronage of Surikov Art Institute in Moscow since 1951, and in 1963 Stekolschikov graduated from the Institute itself. At the Institute the future artist enrolled at the Painting Department but later transferred to the Graphic Department to B. A. Degtyarev's workshop. Vyacheslav Stekolschikov based his graduation work on the novel “Alyonka" by S. P. Antonov and defended it under the guidance of the famous graphic artist Y. P. Reiner.

After graduation thanks to his creative trips life threw him to all sorts of places: Arctic, the Virgin Lands, Chukotka, Kamchatka and Tumen. He even witnessed the war in Africa, in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. One of the first and most significant creative trips for his artistic career was a visit to Dickson Island which resulted in a unique series of graphic works exhibited in Moscow in 1962.

In 1964 Vyacheslav Stekolschikov became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and started to actively exhibit his artworks, which activity goes on up to the present moment. For the last few years he has taken part in various exhibitions, among which are: "Christmas exhibition", Moscow, 2011: group exhibition "Romantics of Realism. Moscow artists", Moscow, 2012; jubilee exhibition "Moscow Union of Artists — 80", Moscow, Central House of Artist, 2012; All-Russia art exhibition "Russia XII", Moscow, Central House of Artist, 2014; "Moscow artists for the Regions" exhibition, Moscow, Moscow Union of Artists' exhibition hall 2014; "To Love Your Motherland" exhibition, Moscow, Russian Art Academy, 2015.

The artist has numerous awards: in 1957 he won the contest for the best emblem and pin for the World Youth and Student Festival in Moscow, he was awarded a silver medal at the international exhibition in Karachi (Pakistan) in 1961, won the contest for the mural decoration of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior together with his son in 1997, the medal in honor of the 850 ^th anniversary of Moscow in 1998, the golden medal from the Russian Art Academy in 2009 and the medal of the Moscow Union of Artists "In recognition of the services dedicated to the development of art" in 2009.

In 2000 the artist was granted the title of the People's Artist of Russia.

Artworks by Vyacheslav Stekolschikov are represented in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Institute of Russian Realistic Art as well as in the galleries and private collections both in Russia and abroad.
