Love is...ART. St.Valentine's Day Exhibition

01-02-2017
by Quarta Gallery

Love and art are intertwined so tightly that one could never separate one from the other. Is it not love that inspires the artist to create a sensual image capable of striking a deep chord in the viewer’s heart? From Praxiteles and his divine and at the same time amazingly earthly Aphrodite to ecstatically celestial Botticelli’s Venus and exquisite eroticism of Modigliani, to modern painters who have taken in all the richness of the world’s romantic legacy.

The images of love presented by “Quarta” gallery at “LOVE is…ART” exhibition are diverse but equally touching. They include fine graphic art by Evgeny Rastorguev with his light impressionistic hand, unmistakably giving away the master of the 1960s, as well as his colorful characters from fairy “Gorodets” engaged in vivacious folklore-style flirting.

While creating an elaborate piece of art, which in its final form is meant to appear before the viewer, the customer or general public, the artist makes a large number of sketches, variants and drawings. Flicking through a book with illustrations, sympathizing with the cartoon characters, admiring the beauty and comfort of a lovely interior we rarely realize that beyond the book, the frame or the room there are hundreds of fascinating artistic ideas left on paper in pencil, ink or paints. And very often each idea is not just a momentary thought of the artist but a complete piece of art which can be interesting not only for the narrow circle of creators but also for the connoisseurs of graphic arts, collectors and a wide range of viewers.

"Colorful Moments". Personal exhibition of artworks by Ekaterina Tikhonova. November 13 - 29, 2015

29-10-2015
by Quarta Gallery

Personal exhibition of artworks by Ekaterina Tikhonova wil be held from November 13 till November 29 at A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theater Museum, in the Theater Salon on Tverskoy boulevard (11, Tverskoy boulevard). Paintings, graphics, batik.

Ekaterina Tikhonova’s creative activity is variable and comprehensive. It includes delicious-looking still lifes in oil and tempera, landscapes and fantasy batiks as if illustrating fairy tales. The artist’s eye catches something elusive and attractive in everyday life and transforms ordinary objects into mysterious compositions, allegoric images and sometimes into something totally unpredictable even for herself. The graphic character of her canvases makes her perception close to that of a photographer who is looking for the right angle with the help of his camera, searching for the point to base her story on. And here comes the artist’s fascination by silk printing: she can let her imagination run wild in it. Amazing flowers turn into incredible figures, filled with sensuality, the straight line of city houses curves, going beyond the “road”, covering the whole canvas and transmuting into an endless starry night.

QUARTA Gallery presents its first exhibition. October 8 — 18. House and Museum Mouravieff – Apostol

14-09-2015
by Quarta Gallery

QUARTA Gallery would like to present an exhibition "Interior within Interior. 1930 — 2015" on October 8 — 18 at House and Museum Mouravieff – Apostol (23/9 bld.1, Staraya Basmannaya street). The exhibition will work 10 days - every day from 11 am to 6 pm or any time by appointment.

A classic painting, as we perceive it starting from the Renaissance era, always conveys certain understanding of space. The artist offers us a kind of window which may overlook a garden, a church or maybe an adjacent room. The idea of the “Interior within interior” exhibition is in creating, within the interior of an old Moscow manor (Mouravieff-Apostol House), a mini-space representing various periods of Russian art of the 20th and 21st centuries. Small “chambers” with artworks by Russian artists recreate the atmosphere of different decades of the 20th century, which provides the viewer with the opportunity not only to pass by and see in succession the retrospective of interior art and graphics from the 30s of the 20th century till present time but to find his or her own point of view in its direct sense, to choose a spot in the hall revealing an unexpected perspective of several art planes simultaneously.
