Exhibition project "THAW"/ State Tretyakov Gallery, 10, Krymsky Val, halls 60–61. 16 February — 11 June

Tretyakov gallery presents the largest exhibition project dedicated to the period of national history marked as "the thaw era". It spans the period from 1953, when after Stalin’s death the first amnesties of political prisoners took place, and up to 1968, when the Soviet tanks invaded Czechoslovakia dispelling the illusion of building socialism with "a human face".

The exhibition will present part of the unique collection from the State museum of the Republic of Karakalpakstan (Uzbekistan) named after I.V.Savitsky, which is estimated by the Russian and foreign specialists as one of the best art collections of the Asian region.

The film created by Hollywood masters told the world the story of the museum lost in the sands of Central Asia, which turned out to have owned for almost half a century the world second-ranking collection of the Russian avant-garde artists of the start of the 20th century. The Jewish Museum in collaboration with the «Russian avant-garde encyclopedia» present the follow-up of a major exhibition project under the supervision of Andrey Sarabyanov – a unique collection of avant-garde art from the regional museums of 17 cities: Arkhangelsk, Astrakhan, Vyatka, Ekaterinburg, Ivanov, Kostroma, Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhny Tagil, Omsk, Samara, Saratov, Smolensk, Tula, Cheboksary, Yaroslavl, Yaransk. The main idea of the exhibition is to show forgotten artworks of well-known and little known or even unknown avant-garde artists from the collections of regional museums.

Retrospective exhibition of Zinaida Serebriakova / State Tretyakov Gallery. 12, Lavrushinsky pereulok, 2nd and 3rd floors. 4 April — 30 July

This retrospective exhibition is one of the most complete shows of Zinaida Serebriakova’s artworks during the last 30 years. The emphasis of the exposition is made on the fruitful Russian period of the artist’s creative life. A significant place is allocated to Serebriakova’s favorite genre -portraits — and to landscapes. The exhibition will also put on display the sketches of frescoes created for Kazansky railway station in Moscow and a series of paintings uncovering the backstage world of Mariinsky theater. The artworks of the Paris period will come from French collections; these artworks will be presented in Russia for the first time. The Moscow viewers will also have an opportunity to see the ornamental panels from Brouwer’s villa which were long considered lost at the time of the Second World War.
